Getting Home Safely
Keeping students on a productive path to graduation can be complicated. Sometimes life circumstances intervene. Illness, homelessness, bullying, and family dynamics can affect a child's ability to perform well in school. Interactions wtih law enforcement can be one of the many factors that can take a student off the path to graduation. As an American Graduate station, WFYI has explored many of these concerns with the support and insignt of community partners. Our focus is ensuring students move into adulthood with as many options for success open to them as possible. One of the goals of the American Graduate Initiative is to provide tools and resources so we can all expand the ways we can support children, youth, families, edcuators, and youth serving professionals.
We offer you this video, produced by The SALT Project, along with the Christian Theological Seminary, and Trinity United Church of Christ. This short film is based on David Miller's advice to black youth and families, "10 Rules of Survival if Stopped by the Police." The film was produced by WFYI.
